Somersault playing La La Land Brisbane for The Sinking Ship

Having recently returned from London, the Sydney production powerhouse and festival regular is gracing the decks for Brisbane outfit The Sinking Ship at mainstay La La Land, in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, on Saturday 11 January.

Hey, I’m Jim, or Somersault. I’m a house and UKG producer from Sydney. I’ve been living in London for the last couple years and have recently moved back to Australia. I’m playing in Brisbane for the first time in a few years, at La La Land this Saturday night for The Sinking Ship crew. Expect lots of my unreleased slinky minimal, proper rolling house music and some gun finger UKG.

I first played in Brisbane in 2017 and have had a long and enduring love affair with the city since. The Brissy scene has been incredibly supportive of my music over the years and I’ve made a stack of great friends there. When introducing Somersault it’s best to let the music do the talking. From chart-topping releases on PIV, Audiojack’s Gruuv and Ben Rau’s META, to being remixed by Jimpster, Darius Syrossian and Audiojack. Heads are turning fast to this thriving force from down under. Heavily influenced by jazz-infused house, the shuffling rhythms of UK garage and rolling atmospheric techno, Somersault straddles the line between delirious highs and murky lows, with a sound that’s brought his unique sets to some of the most respected outdoor festivals and underground clubs.

The talented producer has come a long way from session guitarist to forging a signature brand of completely unique and enduring, groove focussed music. Receiving plays and support from Marco Carola, Archie Hamilton, Stacey Pullen, Prunk, Tobi Neumann, Groove Armada, John Digweed, Felix Da Housecat, Laurent Garnier, Karotte, Roger Sanchez, Franky Rizardo, the list goes on and on.

Finding creative comfort in a raw stripped back sound, Somersault’s recent releases have been signed to world-renowned imprints: Kerri Chandler’s MadTech, Rendr, Rawsome Deep, Airtime, Whoyostro, Sit Down and Innocent. His genre-bending work has also been snatched up by Suprematic, Hidden Vibes, Bassic and Open.

From dimly lit clubs to sun-drenched festival floors, Somersault seizes the psyche of the party. His lively DJ performances have seen him perform at Amsterdam Dance Event, and London’s 93 East and he’s become a festival regular at Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Subsonic, Dragon Dreaming and Elements, along with famed brands on the club circuit: Revolver Upstairs, Goodbar, S.A.S.H and Elsewhere.
